Checkered Beetle

Cymatodera sp

Description:

They are 5-10 mm. Getting a specific ID is extremely difficult. The range is throughout US and parts of so. Canada, most diverse in sw. US. The adults are predaceous, feeding (in part) on the larvae of gall wasps, fruit tree lepidoptera, and wood-boring beetles. Found this on a Lions Tail bush.
