mushroom

Description:

huge edible mushroom, one of the biggest I've ever seen!

Habitat:

miombo woodland, 1000m

Notes:

I spotted this mushroom in the kitchen in Namizimu forest reserve. The staff had picked it and brought it for the owners to eat. I don't like mushrooms but they told me it was delicious.

Thanks Randy, it does look a lot like A. zambiana. Not sure if there was a veil present on the stipe.

It could be something like Amanita zambiana ( http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Amanita%20za... ), but like I said before there's no way to be sure without seeing the whole thing. Do you know if there was a veil present on the stipe?

Looks like an Amanita species, maybe one from the section Vaginatae but I'm not sure. Very hard to tell without seeing the entire stem and base.
