Thapsia villosa

Description:

Life and Mathematics, fractal geometry in frosted Thapsia. In a fractal the same motif repeats at different scales. They are iterative and recursive and seemingly infinite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal. Thapsia villosa ia a herbaceous perennial, growing up to 100 cm high. The inflorescences are large, regularly distributed umbels and yellow coloured. The seeds have four wings, and are the main characteristic of the genus, which is distributed in the Mediterranean, on the Spanish peninsula, and North Africa.

Habitat:

Pine tree and evergreen oak forest. Dehesa de Valdelatas

Notes:

The chemical compound thapsigargin has been isolated from Thapsia garganica. A synthetic prodrug of thapsigargin called "G-202" is in preliminary clinical trials for cancer treatment.
