Rabbit

Oryctolagus cuniculus

Description:

It is a mammal that has long pointed ears and acute sight, smell, and taste. It's fur can be brown, tan, grey, black or white. It grows to be between 8 and 20 inches in height and weighs between 1-7 lbs. It lives from 4 to 8 years. Another species that lives in the same environment is a fox. Rabbits have a symbiotic relationship with bacteria. The relationship is mutualism. The rabbit needs the bacteria to break down its food, the food becomes food for the bacteria and the bacteria becomes food for the rabbit. Rabbits are able to camouflage into their environment by changing their fur color to match the surroundings. They are white in the winter and are brown in the spring. It can live in the winter because its fur will keep it warm. Rabbits reproduce by having intercourse. They are pregnant for only 30 days and will have between 4 and 12 babies. Rabbits breed frequently.

Habitat:

Rabbits live in forest thickets, meadows and woodland. They eat Clover, Grass, and Crunchy Vegetables. Fox, Snakes, and large birds are known to prey on rabbits. Rabbits like to have firm dirt to dig in, places to hide like shrubs, shaded areas to cool down and shelter from the environment.
