Eastern bluebird

Sialia sialis

Description:

Our spring has been very rainy and wet. Insectivores like bluebirds (2/3 of their diet are insects and invertebrates) have thinner bodies than other birds and don't hold heat as well when their feathers are fluffed up. They can get very soaked (and I imagine disgruntled) when it rains for hours on end.

Habitat:

My yard

Interesting though- it shows the blue as dull brown... Good example of how blue in feathers is NOT a pigment , but rather a result of a special structural element that reflects light as the color blue. Nice!
