Big bug! About 2 inches in diameter. Black.

Habitat:

Fish creek in northern Indiana. Shallow slow moving creek bed. Hiding under rocks.

Only a suggestion. I am not too sure though. But neat find anyway!

COULD be a Giant Water Bug. But it looks a little different in photo to me... They are ambush hunters preying on anything that they can grab hold of; turtles, toads, frogs, snakes, snails, fish and other things. They are quite the creepy water insect nick-named "toe-biters" since they can grab you and inflict a painful pinch. Pretty neat though. I have discovered one preying on a red-spotted toad.
