Macrotona securiformis
About 30mm long. Strong black and white markings and bands.
Attracted to lights in a local used car yard.

Note Martin's suggestion below. There seems to be at least 3 species which are visually very similar and images on the web seem mixed. Could also be M australis and Macrotona mjobergi

....hmm yes too much for now...
Thanks for your research. I agree with your findings.
Quality control?
My reference is from Geoff Walker
Cannot quite change my focus to Orthopterans yet,
:) After eyeballing it with a fine tooth comb (!!??) I could find zero fault with Donald's version whereas I did have problems with Peter's. There are several with serious problems on ALA. I'm getting worried about their quality control.
Brisbane insects, Peter Chew was your reference, I referred to his comment.
I do not qualify to separate the common and inland species.
Your call is as good as mine.
Thanks Martin. Going with Donald Hoburn's for a while. Who's is Peter?
Peter has called his handsome common, as distinct from the Common macrotona, which is a different species.
They are both handsome and both, it seems common.
One of our busiest places is the wheelchair ramp at the local school. Because it's hilly here it zigzags for miles like a snaking concrete gully. It holds warmth and has lights all the way along as per requirements. Great spot to gather in lost light-lovers. :-)
Getting some interesting finds.
