Certhia brachydactyla
Small bird, slightly smaller than sparrow. Mottled brown above, whitish below with slightly curved thin bill.
Seen this spring in deciduous lowland forest, mainly oak and beech, in Geneva lake valley.
1.) The two species of Treecreepers (Eurasian and Short-toed) present in our part of the world are confusingly similar, and I never learned to identify them based on their appearances... I based my ID-ing process purely on their habitats and nothing else: Eurasian Treecreeper is a bird of highlands and rather coniferous forests; while the Short-toed is the bird of lowlands and deciduous trees forests; also sometimes found in urban parks. 2.) Another thing with these two - I don't know how many spottings of them I have (with photos), probably a dozen... but truth to be told I still don't have one clear pic of the entire bird; from the side, and easily recognizable...
