Short-toed Treecreeper

Certhia brachydactyla

Description:

Small bird, slightly smaller than sparrow. Mottled brown above, whitish below with slightly curved thin bill.

Habitat:

Seen this spring in deciduous lowland forest, mainly oak and beech, in Geneva lake valley.

Notes:

1.) The two species of Treecreepers (Eurasian and Short-toed) present in our part of the world are confusingly similar, and I never learned to identify them based on their appearances... I based my ID-ing process purely on their habitats and nothing else: Eurasian Treecreeper is a bird of highlands and rather coniferous forests; while the Short-toed is the bird of lowlands and deciduous trees forests; also sometimes found in urban parks. 2.) Another thing with these two - I don't know how many spottings of them I have (with photos), probably a dozen... but truth to be told I still don't have one clear pic of the entire bird; from the side, and easily recognizable...
