Eastern Box Turtle

Terrapene carolina carolina

Description:

Eastern Box Turtle attempting to cross the highway in Mammoth Cave National Park, KY. He eventually made it to the other side, with a bit of help. I normally don't handle wildlife, but I didn't want my kids to see this guy crushed by a speeding vehicle!

Sorry, no arthropods this time... the only ones we saw were the cave crickets but the photos didn't turn out well.

Wow! The color on this individual is stunning! Thank you for helping this turtle to cross the road safely.

I was just at Mammoth Cave National Park last summer. It is beautiful there. If you have any arthropod spottings from the park, you can add them to the Mammoth Cave Moth and Arthropod Mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/7165...
