Rainbow Lorikeet (Swainson's Lorikeet)

Trichoglossus haematodus (moluccanus)

Description:

Rainbow Lorikeet (I think this is a Swainson's Lorikeet variety) feeding on Callistemon flowers. Despite the normal nut and seed cracking style beak of parrots, these birds have a specially developed tongue and feed mostly on nectar, pollen, and fruit.

Notes:

Seem to have adapted to living around people. I see them a lot in the trees around my house (though I am lucky to live next to a large park and near to bushland), as well as at my workplace which is right next to a railway line and residential area.
