Italian wall lizard

Podarcis sicula

Description:

Italian wall lizard, also known as Ruin or Istanbul lizard; here some 10 cm long body, with a tail longer than that. Looks abit like Wall Lizard, except for an amount of green on the back.

Habitat:

Native to Balkans, Italy, France and Switzerland; and common within this range. It was introduced elsewhere. The species is found in mediterranean climate and its various habitats (gardens, rocky and sandy shores etc) . In Krka NP, we observed it in two separate spots - this one close to a forest pathway. In Krka NP, Krka river forms a series of waterfalls and lakes; the river is surrounded by a magnificent dense broad-leaved forest, and its shallow coastal waters are rich in vegetation.
