Texas Box Turtle Shell

Terrapene sp

Description:

This shell was probably 4" long, bleached pure white.

Habitat:

This shell was found in a pine forest in Eastern Texas.

Notes:

Unless I'm wrong (and I'm never wrong), this is from a box turtle. There are two species of box turtles found in Texas: three-toed box turtle (Terrapene carolina triunguis) and the ornate box turtle (Terrapene ornata). With just the shell, I don't know how to differentiate.
