Savannah Sparrow

Description:

White eye ring. White outer tail feather. Vesper Sparrow? because it's missing yellow near eye of Savannah Sparrow.

Habitat:

farming field adjacent to great dismal swamp

Notes:

While stopped on side of road for about 10 minutes, I also saw these birds with above bird: Savannah Sparrow (with yellow path between bill and eye), Song Sparrow, White-Throated Sparrow, Carolina Wren and Caroline Chickadee.

Savannah is correct. Though the yellow lores are a great way to ID them, they are not always present as Malcolm said

The long pinkish legs suggest Savannah Sparrow, not all have yellow lores and the different races can be quite variable. My first thought was a Lark but you don't have many choices over there, bill appears too short for a Pipit.
