Description:

Invasive seaweed in shallow tide pool on large uncovered reef flat

Habitat:

Nearshore shallow water tropical coral reef ecosystem

Notes:

Spotted just off the southeast end of Mokauea Island on the uncovered tidal flat. The gorilla ogo is the orange-colored growth visible at several places in the image. The spotting was made during a project to map this species in the Mokauea area prior to commencing removal efforts. Click on the reference link for information about the harm done to the local environment by this invasive species.
