Notch-wing Moth

Ennomos magnaria

Description:

Resembling a fallen autumn leaf, Ennomos magnaria, also known as the Maple Spanworm is a large geometrid moth which holds its wings at a 45° angle, with an unorganized scallop at the ends of its wings.

Habitat:

Larvae feed on leaves of Alder, Ash, Basswood, Birch, Elm, Hickory, Maple, Oak, Poplar.

I guess it has not frozen here in the NC mountains as there were still some peppers on the plants when I arrived back.
Yep, that's my moth...isn't it nice? & Notch-wing is the better name in my opinion.

Thanks for your very nice comments, Keith, Ann, and Carol! I was surprised to see this one today. I thought all the moths had gone, as the nights in NY have went below freezing a couple of times.
