A big identifier for this mushroom (as an Inocybe) is the way that the edges split when it gets old (and "kind of gross"--I know what you mean. When they get old and water-logged they start to rot and their texture and smell tends to...well...get kind of gross.)

Photo is rather blurry. I am assuming this was an agaric of some sort. Dd you note the odor?
