Mantis religiosa
The Praying Mantis is so called because of the praying like posture it adopts with its folded fore-limbs. Generally the females are green and larger than the males, with wider abdomens. The males tend to be tan coloured, smaller and thinner.
This one was sitting in some dead leaves in our garden.
