Breed in the tundra of High Arctic Canadian islands and peninsulas. While migrating: hard-packed sand beaches, tidal mudflats, rocky coastlines, and inland bodies of water—including ponds, streams, reservoirs, and shallow prairie lakes.
A couple of small groups of 4 to 8 running along the shoreline.
