kunzah, sorry I was being a bit too vague. I meant not too far from you on a much larger scale. I haven't hiked in NY, I just meant I'm relatively close to you, being in southern Ontario.

The leaves and roots are often used to flavor drinks, such as root beer. The entire plant is edible and has some medicinal properties.

Thanks Dan! I thought it was pretty as well. I have to wonder what color the seed pods were before they dried, though.

Beautiful foliage. I like the seed pods too. I've never seen this plant before and I hike a lot not too far from where you spotted it. Great find.
