Southern Right Whale

Eubalaena australis

Description:

This monumental mammal sadly beached at Capricorn Beach near Muizenberg in the Western Cape on 7 October 2012. One can tell by the slash on its face running all the way down its back that this Southern Right met its fate by a big boat's propeller. There were lots of shark activity during this time and all the beaches were closed to the public.
