Coastal fringe of low-lying, arid, tropical sand island

Notes:

Spotted on the northeast side of Mokauea Island during alien species removal; the pictures show uprooted plants; the purpose of the nodule in the first picture is unknown; the second picture illustrates examples of the rhizome structures by which this species spreads
