Pycnoporus

Pycnoporus sp.

Description:

Pycnoporus is a genus of fungi in the Polyporaceae family. This genus is distinguished from most other polypores because of its brilliant red-orange color. Modern mycology recognizes 4 distinct species of Pycnoporus. Pycnoporus cinnabarinus, Pycnoporus coccineus, Pycnoporus puniceus, and Pycnoporus sanguineus. These four species are divided somewhat by morphology, biogeography, and DNA sequencing.
