Thanks for the suggestion - however the range of X. timais seems to be limited to the Americas.
This ref: http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/orn/... suggests a similar-looking caterpillar, Brithys crini, found in the Old-world tropics which may be what my spotting is. What do you think?
