Carduelis carduelis
Carduelis carduelis is a small passerine bird belonging to finch family, Fringillidae. Slightly bigger than a house sparrow, both sexes show red face with seed-eater beak, black and white head, warm brown upperparts, white underparts with buff flanks and breast patches. Wings are mainly brown, with black and golden-yellow stripe. There are several subspecies, I'm not sure which one is this - based on its geographical range, I would vote for Carduelis carduelis carduelis...
Seen, in group of some 15 to 20 birds, in our village (and from my window actually), in urban (but still quite wooded and close to nature) area around Geneva. This birds are our regular visitors in autumn and winter time, I've seen them regularly from my window at that time. When it becomes warmer in Alps and Jura, I see these finches really rarely...

I would vote for Carduelis carduelis carduelis...too because it's Genus, species and subspecies names are all the same!
