Woolly Bear

Pyrrharctia isabella

Description:

A beautiful gift from Autumn!

Habitat:

Feeds on a variety of grasses.

Notes:

Found on October 16 in Coxsackie, NY. I put it in a secure area of my bookbag, but it had disappeared when I checked. Two days later, today, I found it crawling in another section of my bag! It was perfectly fine, and is now eating grasses in a strawberry container for me to rear it in.

Thanks Ramya! Only sensitive-skinned people can get irritations by this caterpillar, but yes, others can cause quite a painful sting!
