Són lloros petits, de cua curta i molt colorits, els seu tamany es de 13 i 16 cm aproximadament. S'alimenten de llavors, fruites i rovells. Viuen entre 10 i 15 anys.
Són originas d'Àfrica i Tanzania, tot i que algunes van emigrar a l'oest de Ruanda i Burundi.
