Lichen Moth

Cisthene liberomacula

Description:

A 1 inch long, cylindrical shaped moth. Drab brown, with a red triangular red patch on its shoulder. I thought that red patch would be a clue for the species. Large dark eyes.

The red patch looks like an injury or parasite.

Perhaps it is Lichen Moth, Cisthene liberomacula, but all the pictures I've seen do not have the red spot.

That's a good thought. It does look like some kind of wound. It was so perfectly placed in the middle I thought it may be important.

I'm not sure if the red patch is common for the species or if it's some kind of ailment or defect, because I THINK these are a species that is fairly common (where I'm from at least) but just without the mark
