Blue-faced Meadowhawk

Sympetrum ambiguum

Description:

A pastel blue forehead and face, bluish eyes and a gray and brown striped thorax distinguish it from other meadowhawks. Females are similar but the red of the abdomen is replaced by brown.

Habitat:

Most often found near temporary woodland ponds and swamps. This one was photographed at the constructed wetlands at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park near Augusta (Richmond County), GA.

Notes:

This is my first documented spotting for this species.
