Calycopis isobeon
This gorgeous little Hairstreak (Family Lycaenidae) came for tea in a garden restaurant in Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico, about 350 meters. This same species was also spotted in August 2013 at a higher elevation: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/379....
He flew away without opening his wings. For pictures of the adult (and with the wings open) see: http://butterfliesofamerica.com/calycopi....... For pictures of the larva of this species see: http://butterfliesofamerica.com/calycopi.......
Thank you bayucca and mhannisian. I just can't decide between the 2 species of Calycopis. What a beautiful little creature it is.
There are some of the Calycopis which are almost not identifiable without the native specimen. It is definetely a Calycopis sp. and I tend more to Drusilla than Isobeon due to the detached spot on the hindwing. In Isobeon this spot is usually following the stripe or is sometimes a little bit declined from the striped, but in my eyes not detached. Calicopis origo (or susanna) and Isobeon are identical, you need a DNA or maybe you have a location where the one is not reported (yet?). To be on the safe side, I would note: Calycopis sp.
