American Carrion Beetle larva

Necrophila americana

Description:

A pitch-black, creepy-crawly bug that reminded me of a centipede, millipede or something in that family but with larger, thicker, less numerous legs. Something that seeks dark, moist, cool areas to hide in...Size was 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch in length perhaps

Habitat:

On a dirt path (that's now a paved bike trail) leading towards the Lake Emma hiking trail. The path is surround by woods and brush with wildflowers, fungi and other flora growing in the ditch alongside it. Due to the woods, this area has any manner of decaying plant matter every where you look. Located about a block away from Annie Battle Lake and half a city block away from a creek

Notes:

Moved fairly quickly across the trail but not as fast as some centipedes and millipedes I've seen

Thank you so much for helping me identify this beetle, Tom15!! I've seen the adult version but had never seen them in their larva stage. :-)))
