Spider-hunting Wasp

Dichragenia jacob

Description:

Saw the movement and ran for my camera. It kept moving and flying short distances. Unfortunately it went over the neighbors wall, so could not find the final resting place.

Notes:

Females hunt and paralyse wolf spiders (Lycosidae) removing the spider's legs before transporting the prey to their nest. Species of Dichragenia often build a mud turret over the nest entrance. (From http://www.waspweb.org/Vespoidea/Pompili...)

There's a lot of good meat in those legs so It's all about fitting it through the door.
Nice shots Johan.
