A large fly. What lovely green eyes. No transverse or other bands across eyes. It must be a diagnostic trait!! Google tells me green eyes are typical of some species in the genus Tabanus. These green-eyed horseflies are called greenheads. Most horseflies don't have green eyes.
On the net designed to keep out mosquitoes. My verandah. I have no idea how these flies found their way in and they had no idea how to exit!
