Buff-Banded Rail

Description:

Brown upperparts, finely banded black and white underparts, a white eyebrow, chestnut band running from the bill round the nape, with a buff band on the breast.

Habitat:

Spotted at Penguin Island WA (Australia), usually seen singly in vegetation along the water's edge; sometimes in open grassland, this one was taking a bath on a sink near the Discovery Centre. Found throughout Australasia and the south-west Pacific region.
