thnx so much Kathleen for all your kind comments .
This time I was able to take pics around sunrise and sunset.I noticed that most birders preffered taking pics before sunrise or after sunset. Some parks require special permits for that.

I really like this Hema. Especially the late afternoon (?) lighting, gives it such a warm glow. Glad it came up on the newsfeed tonight as I hadn't seen it yet.

i was looking at a bunch of other shrikes that looked more like this one here, but all were out of range

Loggerhead is on the list of birds seen at this time of the year.
Fun as it is ,sorting out the birds is tedious.
Appreciate all the help :)

you just might be right. I'm not 100% convinced, but a loggerhead might be your best bet, jemma. sorry, ashley

There is no way you can tell size from one picture with a few twigs in it.

it may be a northern shrike, lanius excubitor. But after looking at the range, northern shrikes' don't quite go that far south. my big thing was that it looked a little small for a loggerhead

hmm. you might be right, ashley, it could be a loggerhead, but here's my suggestion

Sorry you think that. Try looking at range maps before you disagree with me though.

hmm. i don't think it's a loggerhead, ash

you've got a shrike all right, jemma. Just trying to ID exact specie. I'm looking now.
