Lacquered Polyphore

Ganoderma lucidum

Description:

Also known as Reishi and Lingzhi. Fairly firm fungus. Rusty orange/yellow at base growing out to a yellow, then white at the outer margins of larger specimens. Shiny, especially in colored areas.

Habitat:

Suburban yard. Appears to be growing from the root remains from a Maple tree that was removed a couple of years ago.

Notes:

These have been growing in the yard for a couple of months. I only noticed them when I was mowing since they have stayed fairly low profile in the grass. These mushrooms are used extensively in traditional Chinese medicine.
