Green goddess is a common garden escapee, forming colonies in the wild. A herbaceous clump forming rhizomatous perennial. Its an unusual, large arum lily, with large, arrow-shaped, glossy, dark green leaves growing in clumps up to 1.5 m tall. In early summer, white spathes (flowers), up to 20cm (8") across with creamy white centers blending into green tapered tips, rise above the foliage. The amount of green on the flower can vary. Fruits remain somewhat encased by the old flower spathe.
This plant particularly loves moist shade and rich soil. Its feet can be submerged in water.
It is classed by New Zealand Biosecurity as a pest plant. It smothers ground, preventing regeneration of native flora. It is spread by birds and is particularly invasive in wet areas. The rhizomes are spread by the dumping of garden cuttings
