Another indicator to Dane's correct ID is the paired samaras visible in the second photo, A. saccharum's fruits form a horseshoe shape not the broadly spreading seen here.

Does the fact that this was spotted in fall change your decision? I don't know what this leaf looked like in the summer time. It may have been another color, possibly green. I'll update the ID, though! Thank you, Dane.
I'd have to disagree, red and purple-leaved maples are in the ornamental Norway Maple family and are quite invasive, the native Sugar Maples have green leaves.
