Oblong cocoon with black and white setae woven into it. The setae, which are urticating, come from the caterpillar stage.
Attached to a log in a mixed forest.
You are very lucky to have found several beautiful Pupae, and lots of beautiful caterpillars, this past fall. Enjoy all there beauty....

Thanks maplemoth. I was lucky to find several pupae this past fall...and so many caterpillars too. It must have been a good year for them, so hopefully that will mean lots of butterflies and moths come spring and summer next year!
