Small Cabbage White Butterfly

Pieris rapae

Description:

Family: Pieridae. A small common white butterfly often mistaken as a moth with black tip wings. A non-hibernating butterfly that can withstand cold temperatures. Females have two black spots in the middle of forewing. Wingspan 32-47 mm (1.25 - 2 inches) Causes damage to cabbage and mustard crops.

Habitat:

Large open meadow with abundant flowers (Small white aster flowers)

Notes:

First time photo with wings opened. Range is nearly world-wide.
