Wild Turkey

Meleagris gallopavo

Description:

Two adult, female (Hen) Turkey with their young

Habitat:

Foraging for food along a mowed trail that runs through dense woods and brush

Notes:

While walking through the park, my grandson and I came across this family of Turkey out foraging for food along the same trail we were walking on. Fortunately, I was walking slowing taking pictures and my four-year-old grandson was riding in the buggy I was pushing ahead of me. The Turkey did not seem terribly afraid of us as they continued foraging with the one adult in back keeping a close eye on us. They didn't run or fly away and only moved off the trail when we got a little too close for their comfort. We turned to look back, after we'd passed where they'd entered the woods, and saw them back up on the trail behind us foraging once again.
