Crambid Moth

Metasia capnochroa

Description:

This attractive dark Crambid moth was small with a wing span of only 15 mm. It was resting with its front legs holding up the front half of its body, displaying part of its underside which was a brilliant white with dark patterns (Pic 1). The hind wings were dark, with black zig zag lines and a white chevron mark on each fore wing. The dark costal margins were broken by small patches of white near the apices. The trailing wing margins had white lunules and were fringed.
Antennae were swept back over the body. Mouth parts wer pointed like a snout.

Habitat:

Spotted in a nature reserve

Notes:

This moth was high up on a wall, getting clear close-up shots were difficult. Family: Crambidae Subfamily: Spilomelinae
