Tropical Parula

Setophaga pitiayumi

Description:

Very rare find for this area, it was at least 600 miles from its known range which is a lot for a non-migratory bird! Blue above with a green patch on the back, and a bright yellow belly. Two white wing bars and no eye crescents. I originally thought this was a northern parula when I found it, tropical parula never even crossed my mind. I posted it to a Texas fb birding page since northern parula was rare for my area too, and after a few days someone suggested it to be a tropical parula, and after many opinions from experts, everyone agreed it was a tropical parula. Lifer for me too!

Habitat:

In an oak/juniper wooded campground in Palo Duro Canyon SP.
