Megapodius reinwardt
A 40-50cm bird that scuttles away across the forest floor or flies up to a tree when alarmed.
Found in rainforests, vine thickets, and monsoon forests around the North and East coasts of Australia.
They rake about the leaf litter in search of food (fruits, insects, seeds and any other exposed organism). Call both day and nightwith often many birds together. Fairly common in their habitats.

Info finally added, sorry Lori I'm horrible about doing that, thanks for the reminder.
Hi Scott. I've added the wikipedia link. Could you add some information for the people here to read about these fascinating birds.
Sounds about right, they were digging large holes everywhere
dang so cool. great pics!
Nice spot. These megapodes are mound builders; they make use of the rotting material in the nest mound to keep their eggs warm during incubation.
