Spiny Softshell Turtle

Apalone spinifera

Description:

The spiny softshell turtle is a species of softshell turtle, one of the largest freshwater turtle species in North America. They get their name from the spiny, cone-like projections on the leading edge of their carapaces, which are not scutes

Notes:

We rescued this guy from a dirt path, looking pretty rough. Rehabed him for about 6 months then released him. Named him Wesley!
