Thrushes are mainly common in Europe and South America , but I've never heard about Australia Until now, glad my suggestion helped! :)

thanks Phillip. Wikipedia doesn't mention that these birds are found in Australia, I'll wait and see if I get any comments from others. It looks like our blackbird, but it was odd the way it's tail was always up.
