Nephila antipodiana
This spider had a leg span of about 8 inches (20.32 cm).
We had just stepped out of the Maliau Basin rainforest after a 3 day trek when I spotted this giant spider in its web. The web was was stretched between two trees at our base camp.

I think this is a very mature nephila pilipes.
Antipodia has reddish brown legs and no yellow spot behind the knee joints. Also, six pairs of spots on the top of its abdomen.

Nice spotting.
Maliau Basin is a wonderful place for unique spottings.
