This guy was approximately 1.5 inches, or 3.81 cm in length.

Habitat:

Found in a open area, with lots of dandelions, and scotch broom.

Notes:

I've never seen one of these here.

This could be the 17 year cicada that is in many areas of the U.S. this year.
