Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake

Crotalus adamanteus

Description:

Diamond pattern on back. Rattles on tail. This was a small one. A venomous pit viper.

Habitat:

Dry woodlands

Notes:

It was next to a sidewalk leading to our community pool. I used a dead branch to try and pick it up. It wouldn't stay on the branch and got very annoyed. Rattling and biting the branch. It finally decided to head to the woods on its own. Moved surprisingly rapidly across the grass.
