Four-barred Knapweed Gall Fly

Urophora quadrifasciata

Description:

Very small fly. Black body with elongated abdomen. White dot on thorax. Wings with distinct patterining.

Habitat:

Suburban garden. Found feeding on daisies.

Notes:

Native to Europe. Introduced to North America to control Knapweed. I thought it was a picture-winged fly at first. It's actually a species of Fruit Fly!
