Mississippi Green Water Snake

Nerodia cyclopion

Description:

Differs from all other Nerodia spp. by the addition of a scale between the eye and the lip scales (seen in first photo). The body has rectangles on the sides with an overlay of gray, and the belly is heavily patterned.

Habitat:

Found in a swamp with bald cypress trees.

Notes:

Last photo shows a classmate holding this guy, he was not very happy! It was taken with my phone. He bit me a few times, but not hard. He was mostly just striking at the air!
